Volunteer In Africa

Sumer Alvarez Fellowships

IBECOME has partnered with the Sumer Nicole Alvarez Foundation to provide summer field fellowships to interested volunteers.

Each orphanage site hosts several volunteers per year, and our volunteers work and live together for the duration of their fellowship. Although the majority of Sumer Alvarez fellows are university students or young adults serving during the summertime, this service experience is available to all ages, throughout the year, and for longer durations of time. Each year, we also take several highly committed year-long volunteers. Fellowships are a minimum of 8 weeks long, although in select cases we will also consider shorter-term assignments.

IBECOME seeks extraordinarily motivated individuals who show a real passion for their area of interest - whether it be art, athletics, technology, farming, education, health, or anything else. We encourage individuals to apply to become a Sumer Alvarez fellow with a specific project he or she is interested in carrying out during the summer.

We provide all logistical placement and coordination of volunteers. We also support the fellows in facilitating on-going projects and partnering with our local staff at IBecome sites. In preparation for the experience, Sumer Alvarez fellows raise funds to support the cost of their stay in the orphanage and to fund their project.
