Hananasif Orphanage
at Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania
("Hananasif City Center")
The Hananasif Orphanage City Center was founded in 2002 by Hezekia Mwalugaja, a local leader who dreamed of a place that would provide holistic care to orphaned and vulnerable children.
The City Center began as a modest daycare center for 12 children from the nearby slums of inner city Dar-es-Salaam. Within its first year, the orphanage had rown to care for 30 children, providing food and medical care, school fees, counseling, tutoring, and opportunities for the children to develop their natural talents. Despite the construction of the Hananasif Orphanage Academy outside the city, the Hananasif Orphanage City Center remains an outreach to the orphaned street children of the capital, and serves for children ranging from 5 to 18 years of age.
IBECOME operates in the Hananasif Orphanage City Center to meet both the basic needs of the children--housing, food, quality shelter--and to expand the horizons of the children through extracurricular programs in athletics, technology, the arts, and social entrepreneurship.
