Entrepreneurship
& Technology

Problems

  • "Most economies have failed to provide employment opportunities to their youth, with young people more than three times as likely as adults to be unemployed."

    - Millennium Development Goals Report, 2007

Solution

Entrepreneurship training, guided business experience, and technological proficiency will position vulnerable youth to forge their own career paths in the face of high unemployment rates and sharply limited career opportunities. IBECOME is highly invested in efforts to build local capacity and develop the social power of youth:

  • Entrepreneurship Training ("ET"): A former Deloitte consultant heads up our ET program, developing our business education program, workshop teaching, and micro-project implementation to support to students and teachers on-the-ground.
  • Award-winning first blog on the internet by orphaned and vulnerable children.
  • Microfinance Loans for Student's Business Plans: UCLA's Anderson School of Business has provided a diverse and highly qualified team of individuals to offer 6 months of full-time strategic business planning to support our microfinance program.
  • Arts and Local Crafts Project: IBECOME volunteers and academy staff work with local artists to train our students in marketable art products to teach business skills and to generate income.
  • Agricultural Farming: Hananasif Academy students have launched their own farming project to grow fruits and vegetables on campus, providing rich dietary supplements and training in farming and business practices, as well as cutting food costs for the school.
